Bath Bombs, Books, and Beginning Again

Hello, my name is Kasie Ream. In addition to writing this blog, I have started a business selling scented bath bombs, body butters, soaps, and one type of shower steamer. I also plan to add bathtub crayons, bubble bars, and shampoo and conditioner bars. Many of my products are inspired by Lush.

Until I started creating my own products, I didn’t know how any of them were made. Learning about the ingredients and the process has been very interesting.

The active ingredients in bath bombs are citric acid and baking soda. Colors, fragrance oils, Epsom salts, and coconut oil are added and released as the bath bomb dissolves.

Molding bath bombs reminds me of playing with moon sand. However, they can be very difficult to remove from the mold because they will fall apart at the slightest touch. After they are molded, they can take several days to dry.

Learning to Make Bath Products

Body butters include ingredients such as vegetable glycerin, emulsifying wax, fragrance oils, shea butter, and coconut oil. Unlike bath bombs, the body butters are ready to put into jars as soon as they cool.

Writing my First Novel

I am also an author currently working on my first book. It is a science-fiction suspense and adventure story that begins on Earth and eventually travels into space.

The story focuses on a search for life that the government is hiding from everyone—especially a group of extremist saboteurs who believe humanity should return to the Stone Age.

The core of the story has remained the same, but it has continued to evolve as I have gone through the writing process. I do not have a launch date yet. As far as I know, the first book is always the hardest for a first-time author.

The Story Behind the Story

I got the idea for my novel while recovering from a serious mental health crisis. The crisis was caused by a perfect storm: the COVID-19 pandemic, my father’s unexpected death, and attending a university that was not the right fit for me.

Since then, I have never stopped being thankful that I have not repeated the terrifying experience of being in crisis. While recovering, I discovered that I have genetic resistance to several medications, especially sedatives such as Valium, Xanax, and Ativan. I also have resistance to many antidepressants, although not all of them.

Creativity and New Beginnings

Reading is my favorite alternative to screen time, although it may be tied with creating art. Making bath products, writing my novel, reading, and art all give me ways to learn, create, and explore new ideas.

This blog is another new beginning. I look forward to sharing more about my writing, my business, my interests, and the things I learn along the way.
